Dick Deluxe Bio
Singer,songwriter and virtuoso guitarist Dick Deluxe began his career in Texas in the mid 1970’s. After several years at open mics and small folks clubs, he relocated to San Francisco in 1976 and was in many early punk bands.
During the 1980’s Dick was a very active member of the SF Bay area music scene. He released his first jazz album in 1984 New Duets with Bruce MacLeod and was also an original member of SF’s legendary Clubfoot Orchestra. With Clubfoot, Dick toured throughout the country performing their innovative original scores to silent film classics like the Cabinet of Dr Caligari and Nosferatu..
During this era Dick also accompanied many jazz, zydeco and blues greats including Cleanhead Eddie Vinson, Lowell Fulsom, Bishop Norman Williams, and James Moody. He was also a member of the Sundogs who often backed Queen Ida and released numerous albums on the Rounder records label.
In the late 90’s Dick relocated to Los Angeles and was member of the regional music scene performing from San Diego to Santa Barbara. He released the acclaimed Don’t Borax the Borax man album featuring all original songs. He was also the musical director for Jonny Whiteside’s Messaround for several years and backed such diverse artists as Pat Boone, Phil Alvin, Troy Walker, Ronnie Mack and Sponge Bob Square Pants!
He moved to New Orleans for more live playing opportunities in 2012 and has become a regular fixture on the local music scene. He has performed at virtually every club on Frenchmen street under his own name and has a regular residency at the House of Blues. His Turning 61 on Highway 61 released in 2016 was nominated by Offbeat Magazine as Blues Album of the Year and was also named a top 50 release of 2016 by Offbeat,
He recently performed two original sets of music-acoustically with his trio and electrically with his band at the French Quarter fest-the largest free music festival in America. This summer he is scheduled to play at Summerfest in Milwaukee -the largest music festival in North America.
